PASSIVE EUTHANASIA 

 Greeks dying because of our indifference With or without a European Union, Greece stands disgracefully alone while the society collapses. The indifference of Europe is appalling and I feel abhorred. The shortage of medical supplies has started to take it´s toil. People with chronic or progessive illnesses cannot get life-sustaining drugs. People with Diabetes or Chronic Inflammatory syndromes, Reuma, Heart and Lung disease et altri will die and this not just another catastrophy head line in a tabloid. The whole idea of a unified Europe did not, officially at least, rest on military and commercial facilities only. The European Convention on Human Rights which goverend pre EU and which is alleged to be the foundation on which the European Union rests is being violated on all articles and provisions. Who cares? As long as I, we, our nation is doing reasonably fine, what´s the problem? 

China will have to act and save us. Without us China´s export will die. So China is fully prepared to lend us the money to buy Chinese products. Economy is void of any rationality. Europe is particulary void of intelligent thought. The shock and dismay when a European country fell victim to a horrendous Civil War in former Yugoslavia may not have rested on emapthy only but onEuropean pride. Wounded pride. Europe, despite the gruesome wars during the last century, still regards itself as the jewel in the paramount crown, the home of true sophistication and enoblement in all matters and the rest of the world as upstarts. The arrogance of Britain or France is in reality shared by us all. God may not be an Englishman any longer but He is without a doubt European. 

We pride ourselves with giving birth to modern civilzation and brag about it as if we all are Greeks. Classical Greeks. Greece after the Golden Era is totally unknown and nobody cares as long as the water remains a splendid azur blue like the domes on the white chalked enchanting orthodox churches. The junta caused a wave of refugees and we were collectively upset because this was not a token of civilization. But we did nothing to prevent it or intervene. Greece was not financially important. Strategically, yes, with Nato bases on Greek territory dominated by the USA. NATO kissing whatever political butts necessary to maintain a shield versus the communist USSR and the Balkans and to a degree, the Middle East and an unreliable Turkey. The genocide in conflicts between Greece, Armenia or Turkey were not even mentioned in the my history books, nor the occupations which followed one after another. As long as Acropolis was safe, who cared? Tourism was hardly invented except for acrcheologists, historians, poets and the carefully globetrotter sunscreened British nobility. The Greek State has cut all expenses in relation to pharmacies, stateowned or private. Drugs can still be prescribed. People, however, cannot afford them and the supplies have run short. Import of life-sustaining drugs is not an option. 

Yes, we are culpable of Passive Euthanaisia by neglecting the alarming condition and putting even more pressure on Greece to pay the debts which, most probably, would deconstruct the nation. Merkel and her associates are double faced and do not care a fart for Greece. The bankrupcy of Greece may be the start of a domino effect and the European giants and the less important satellites (Sweden, inter alia) are protecting their own interests. If that means starvation, anarchy, chaos and untimely deaths because of a collapsing medical care system in Greece, so be it.. And while we still boast of European sophistication on all levels and the proud legacy from Hellenic Greece, superior to the rest of the world, we hurry to the European Song Contest to keep up appearances of a united Europe while Greece is singing her swansong. This is an outrage and a criminal offense and we are all guilty. I feel humiliated by my nation´s lack of empathy and a total contempt for what is supposed to be a European State of the Art Union, which has shown a flabbergasting incompetence since it´s start.
